The 18th of September Chile celebrates that day in 1810 when they declared their independence from Spain. During the celebrations this time of year, Chile has many fiestas, games, rodeos, and lots of great food. ¡Viva Chile!

    Actually, it wasn´t that we declared our independence, but the day that we started to rule ourselves, keeping our loyalty to the King of Spain Fernando VII while he was captive by Napoleon. That step was key in the way things developed but was by not means a declaration of independence. It was in 1818 (signed the first of January in Concepción and proclaimed in Febraury the 12th in Talca)
