Chile Elects First Female President
Michele Bachelet has been elected Chile’s first female president. Although she has been leading in the polls for quite some time, it took a runoff election to seal her victory over rival millionaire Sebastian Pinera.
Bachelet now turns to fulfilling her promises made during the campaign. According to the BBC:
Ms Bachelet has promised continuity, as head of the coalition which has led Chile for the past 16 years, but has also pledged change.
She has said she is keen to bridge the gap between rich and poor and to give a greater voice to women and indigenous people.
And, our correspondent says, more women are expected to be appointed to public office.
Congratulations Presidenta!

Congratulations to the women on their victory. This is good for the country. I really think that with women making the decisions, the country will be alot stronger.
