Laurel Branch Symbolism on Chilean Pesos

I was wondering if you could tell me why pesos have laurel branches on them and what their significance is to Chileans.

The laurel branches do have some standard symbolism like peace, victory, or triumph. See here for more information:

That link makes an interesting reference to “triumph and fame, especially when it is gained after a long, inner struggle.” Chile’s road to independence from Spain was a long and bumpy one. That history of a long struggle would merit the laurel branches on their peso coins.
