How much do things cost in Chile?

For those traveling to Chile, it is one thing to know the exchange rate of the Chilean peso and another to know what you can actually buy for that same amount of money.

Step 1: Find out how much your currency is worth in Chilean Pesos with the peso currency converter.
Step 2: See how much you can buy with your pesos.

Thanks to my friend Paola, here is a sample of some common items you can buy and their prices in Chilean pesos:

1 Egg: $80
Stick of margarine: $250
Package of Noodles: $400
1 Liter of Milk: $600

1 Kilo of bread: $750
1.5 liters of soft drink (soda): $750
2 kilos of potatoes: $800
Bar of soap: $800
A hot dog or a “completo”: $850
1 liter of cooking oil: $850
50 grams of coffee: $900

5 hamburger patties: $1000
1 kilo of ground beef: $1500
450 ml. shampoo: $1500
750 grams of laundry detergent: $1700

If you want to see how much more expensive items cost, visit Chilean retailer Falabella and browse around looking at prices.

An iPod Shuffle, for example, will cost you $35000 Chilean pesos or roughly $75 USD at today’s currency rates.
