Chupacabras Alive in Chile
There is a famous Latin America myth of the “Chupacabras.” This is a mystical creature that attacks and drinks the blood of goats. It’s name is derived from the Spanish “chupar” meaning “to suck” and “cabra” which is goat. You can read more about this creature on Wikipedia’s Chupacabra page.
It is interesting to see news reports out of Chile that credit the chupacabras with certain animal attacks.
Northern Chile seems to be the favorite place for Chupacabra sightings.
In November 2008 in the northern city of Calama, a rancher lost a couple dozen chickens and rabits to the mythtical Chupacabra. You can read this story in Spanish here: Atribuyen al “chupacabras” extraña muerte de animales en Calama (translate).
In July 2008 in the costal town of Antofagasta, a property owner found several of this goats and lambs mysteriously dead. Locals attributed the deaths to the Chupacabras. You can read this story in Spanish here:
El “Chupacabras” estaría de regreso en Antofagasta (translate).
So maybe the Chupacabras exists after all?
