Favorite Chilean Christmas Traditions

Christmas in Chile is a wonderful time of year.

Chileans have numerous traditions that make Christmas special in Chile:

Christmas Foods and Eating

Families and friends will gather together on Christmas Eve for a traditional Chilean asado.

Cola de mono (Chilean Eggnog), a traditional Christmas drink based on coffee, milk, and licour, is enjoyed by many.

You can enjoy Pan de Pascua, a traditional Chilean Christmas bread.

Christmas Activities

Kids will wait up until midnight on Christmas Eve and then open all their presents. This usually turns into a free-for-all with paper and gifts flying every which way.

Chileans enjoy going to the pool or the beach. Christmas is in the middle of summer in the Southern hemisphere and the warm temperatures and long days make outdoor activities popular.

Family members will travel to other parts of the city or country to visit relatives and loved ones.

Kids will put on plays or skits of the nativity.
