Chilean Peso - 500 Pesos
Although the 500 Pesos bill is still legal tender, the 500 Pesos coin is much more commonplace.


500 Pesos Bill
Circulation Date: May 1977
Dimensions: 145 x 70 mms
Paper: White.
Watermark: On the left side is the portrait of Diego Portales
facing forward.
Security Strip: Just to the left of the main motif, in a vertical
position spanning the entire length of the bill. It has in micro-print
that repeats "FIVE HUNDRED" ("QUINIENTOS") the entire
length.
Colors: Coffee, violet, black and green in diverse shades.
System of Impression: Offset, Taille Douce and typography
Face: The main motif is of the Founder of Santiago, don Pedro
de Valdivia, taken from a painting donated by Isabel II, Queen of Spain,
to the Republic of Chile, created by the painter E. Lucas, in Madrid,
in 1853 and that currently resides in Santiago.
Reverse: The principle motif is that of a painting by the painter Pedro Lira, at the bottom of which reads "FOUNDING OF SANTIAGO" ("FUNDACIÓN DE SANTIAGO").
