Public Transportation in Santiago Chile

Update: Santiago now has a modern public transportation system called Transantiago which has replaced most of what I experienced and describe below.

If I didn't want to take a big yellow Micro, I had other options. Here I am in San Bernardo, a southern suburb of Santiago.

The taxi.
This is a micro, one of the non-yellow types.
This is a "collectivo". This is similar to a taxi in that it is just a car and like a micro because it goes along a route. They are more expensive than the micros because once they fill up, they don't stop for new passengers.
